Ziele und Inhalte

This module introduces students to key principles, tools, and diverse assessment methods in teaching foreign languages. Students will explore practical assessment techniques to enhance their current knowledge. The approach integrates practical methods with contemporary theory to deepen their understanding of assessment. Students will receive guidance in preparing for their forthcoming four-week internship and will benefit from formative feedback on their planning for the subject English.


At the end of the module, students should be able to
- understand and explain principles of assessment in foreign languages and apply them appropriately in their own teaching.
- understand the role of mistakes and errors in the language learning process and draw appropriate conclusions for their own teaching.
- know fundamental aspects of assessment in the various skills and how these can be used in lessons.
- specifically plan their own practical training by relying on given criteria and the requirements of the practical teacher.

Content:
- Evaluation and assessment in foreign language teaching
- Assessing receptive and productive skills
- Error correction and corrective feedback in writing
- Studying and discussing assessments from the course book
- Tests and feedback forms for summative and formative purposes
- Using and analysing the material from the course book
- Planning and preparing the practical teaching period

With reference to the "Referenzrahmen" of the PH Luzern, the module prepares students for the following "Handlungsfelder":

- lectures with input and discussion of prepared texts
- completion of preparatory assignments to make an informed contribution to the seminars
- coaching session for the discussion of students' rough planning for the practical training (Profilpraktikum)
