Teilmodulbeschreibung

Ziele und Inhalte

This module fosters a deeper understanding of the English culture(s) and language(s) by immersing into London’s metropolitan life and exploring its (inter-)cultural and historical facets. The London Week will provide a unique opportunity and authentic experiences to enhance personal (inter-)cultural knowledge that is relevant to the teaching of English at primary and secondary level.

Lehr- und Lernformen

Excursions, events, tours and meetings, and self-study. Documentation of learning.

Form des Leistungsnachweises

Before the trip, students will read about London’s history and other key aspects (see materials on Moodle).
While in London, students will individually explore (inter-)cultural topics. This will help them to broaden their personal knowledge about culture(s) related to the English-speaking world (cf. Lehrplan 21, Kulturen im Fokus). Preferably, they can link their exploration to a topic or unit of the course books (Young World 1-4 / Open World 1-3). The first part is a visit to a bookshop where each student chooses a book by an English-speaking author that is suitable for their target learning group (e.g. storybook for primary level, teen literature for secondary level). They document their choice of book, its content and its suitability for the classroom. For the second part, students will research a topic of personal interest in more depth in small groups. This could be done through a visit to a museum, a gallery, an exhibition or any other significant site. Within the topic, they choose key learnings in terms of knowledge and critical cultural awareness which they describe and evaluate in detail.
Following the trip, the students upload a documentation of learning (see template) in which they demonstrate their newly acquired knowledge and their reflection on their experience in London.

Präsenzpflicht

While in London, there will be both mandatory and optional sequences and events. Students are required to attend all mandatory events, meetings and tours according to the programme. They are expected to actively participate in the group activities and discussions.

Ergänzungen
