Ziele und Inhalte
This module fosters a deeper understanding of the culture(s) and language(s) in London, the metropolitan life and its inter-cultural and historical facets. The London Week will offer a unique opportunity to explore topics and provide authentic experience relevant to the teaching of English at primary and secondary school.
Lehr- und Lernformen
Excursion with inputs, meetings and tours, and self study. Portfolio.
Form des Leistungsnachweises
Before the trip, students inform themselves about Charles Dickens’ life and work (preparation for the Walking Tour) and in groups start to brainstorm ideas of what they want to explore for their individual project (see assignment).
While in London, students will do some research about a cultural topic for their individual assignment, (related to LP21, Kulturen im Fokus), collect authentic material (e.g. pictures, video clips, brochures, texts, links etc.) and describe a possible teaching procedure based on their chosen topic. This will help them to enrich their teaching portfolio and to expand their knowledge about the country. If possible they link the chosen topic to a course book (e.g.Young World 1-4, Open World 1-3). They may work in groups of two to four.
Following the trip, the students will upload a description of their indvidual project on moodle (see template). These materials will be presented in Module EN03.02 (for Primary Students) and in Module EN03.04 (for Secondary Students).
Students are required to attend all mandatory events, meetings and tours according to the programme. They are expected to actively participate in the group activities and discussions.
Overall performance will be assessed on the basis of the students’ participation and the quality of their final result uploaded on moodle. The deadline is two weeks after the London Week ends. The students will receive a short written feedback.
