AIMS AND CONTENTS
How can we observe, describe and analyse language variation and change? What social and regional information can we glean about a speaker through their speech? Can linguistic variation ever be truly random?
This module offers students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the relationship between language and society by discussing foundational sociolinguistic principles, and conducting their own research projects in an area of their choice.
