Ziele und Inhalte
The initial training (Standortpraktikum) serves the purpose of assessing suitability. The professional practical training (Berufspraktikum) can only be started once the initial training has been successfully completed and graded as "satisfied."
During the initial training, students have the opportunity to determine, based on their own experiences in the professional field, whether they possess the required aptitude to become an English teacher at the secondary level II. Conversely, the practical training allows students, together with the mentor teacher and a lecturer in subject didactics (or the practice coordinator) from the PH Luzern, to identify development priorities on which they will work throughout the rest of their practical training.
The initial training is worth 3 ECTS credits, takes place at a secondary school (Gymnasium, FMS, BMS), and comprises a total of 18 individual lessons. Students will both observe (up to 3 lessons) and teach these lessons, continuously reflecting on their performance.
During this practical training, students develop competencies in lesson planning and learn to select and justify the student competencies and corresponding learning objectives to be promoted in the classroom. They learn to systematically relate scientific knowledge (knowledge 'about' practice) and practical action-oriented knowledge (knowledge 'in' practice) in a reflective manner. Students acquire the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate their lessons based on action- and content-oriented criteria, thus promoting competency-oriented teaching. They must possess organizational skills that enable them to effectively use resources and involve stakeholders appropriately. Students should be able to accurately assess and consider their own resources.

Written Assignment (created at home)
At the end of the internship, students must submit three detailed lesson plans to the practice coordinator. These plans should be developed using a planning tool. Additionally, two competency profiles will be completed by the practice teacher, one midway through the training and the other towards the end. Another competency profile will be completed by the subject didactics instructor from PHLU.
