Ziele und Inhalte
The diploma practical training marks the culmination of the practical training for English teachers at the upper secondary level. During the practical training, students demonstrate that they possess the necessary professional competencies, which they have developed and enhanced during the preliminary and professional practical trainings. These competencies include skills in lesson planning, reflective practice, designing action- and content-oriented lessons that are also competency-based and motivating, relationship and organizational skills, stress management, and professional ethical competence.
The English Teaching Diploma Practical Training for Upper Secondary Education is worth 4 ECTS credits. The practical training is conducted at a gymnasium-level Maturity school and includes a total of 18 individual lessons, of which students may observe up to 4 lessons. Students are eligible for the diploma practical training only after successfully completing all other components of the practical training program.
Form des Leistungsnachweises
03) Submission of a dossier (Grobplanung, created at home)
During the examination practical training, the diploma lesson takes place followed directly by a subject didactic colloquium. The examination practical training and the examination lesson (including the colloquium) are assessed independently of each other. There is no averaging of scores. If either the practical training or the examination lesson is failed, the respective part must be repeated. The examination lesson and the subject didactic colloquium formally conclude the vocational practical studies.
No later than two working days before the diploma examination lesson, students must submit a planning portfolio to the responsible lecturer in subject didactics and the practice teacher, which includes the following elements:
A professional presentation of the topics (content analysis at both content and language levels).
A rationale for the topics chosen for the lesson unit (justification analysis with reference to the curriculum and the students' life worlds).
An outline plan of the lesson unit.
Three detailed plans, one for the diploma lesson and the others for the lessons immediately before and after it, containing the following components:
a. Description and rationale for student activities,
b. Description and rationale for the chosen social forms,
c. Description of the lesson progression (timing, phrasing of the lesson),
d. Learning materials (e.g., audiovisual documents, texts, written learning tasks),
e. Didactic commentary, including possible alternatives for the lesson.
